TEACHING INNOVATION PROJECT: Educating for sustainability and occupational health and safety in the field of technology.

Educating students in the technological field with an Occupational Health and Safety and Sustainability mindset to improve safety of people while using technology and improve planet sustainability through the technological solutions they create.

In order to instil the importance of occupational health and safety and care for the environment in professionals who handle information and communications technologies, the developed environment created to learn and manage programming in R will be used together with the GIT repository to carry out some exercises that will allow them to learn the impact of these areas in their specific professional field of action.

This project provides an interesting innovation because it allows to bring the prevention of occupational health and safety and environmental care in a transversal way to all professionals who make use of information and communication technologies.

Objective: To teach the importance of occupational health and safety and care for the environment to professionals who handle information and communications technologies.

SMART-OHS as a cross-cutting axis in the Design of Smart Cities

Smart cities are a very clear example of complex systems and focus their development on the use of technology to transform all aspects of society and embrace the complexity of these transformations to lead to the well-being and safety of the people living in these cities. An essential, but usually implicit, aspect to be taken into account in the design of a smart city is Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). After identifying a significant number of OHS aspects that need to be effectively addressed, a prospective analysis reveals that there is still a gap to be filled in the context of smart city design: explicitly ensuring workers’ safety in uncertain environments and under constant digital transformation changes. The VENTURA2020 model, designed by the R&D&I Chair for the Smart Digital Transformation of Occupational Safety and Health (Cátedra IRSST-UC3M), funded by the Regional Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IRSST) of the Community of Madrid, is a model based on architectural capabilities that describes the main aspects to take into account when including smart OHS in the design of a smart city.
